Christmas has come and gone and another new year is upon us. 2008!
Wow. Where has the time gone? Had a fabulous holiday season.
We stayed in for a quiet Manhattan Christmas and except for a quick jaunt to see
the windows and the Rockefeller Center tree, managed to avoid the crowds
swarming the city.
Had the chance to see David Hyde Pierce in Curtains. Have been
wanting to see it for ages. I just adored him as Niles and then again in
Spamalot, and I wasn't disappointed. Was a wonderful show and the entire
cast was great. We had seventh row center seats and felt like royalty.
Great fun!
Spent much of our time off cooking. We made cheese ravioli with butter
and sage sauce. It was our first attempt at making ravioli from scratch
and I have to say it came out great (we made spaghetti, too), although there was
a moment in there when the ravioli refused to stick together and I thought we
were going to have cheese soup. Perseverance won the day (with a little
help from Food network and Alton Brown) and we had a great meal.
Meat was also prevalent. With Roast Beast for Christmas Day and a
Honey-Baked Ham for New Years. And of course the traditional tamales
for Christmas Eve. (Flown all the way in from Texas mind you.) I
tried making them one year myself...but it's a long involved process and
although they looked great, they were very very bland... some things are better
left to the experts.
Also discovered a fabulous new restaurant on the Westside. Mamas
Empanadas. Oh.My.Gosh. The food is simple but amazing.
South American with pretty much anything you can think of stuffed inside a
wonderful fold of pastry. Whole Wheat or corn. I had a Cuban.
And my husband had shredded beef and another one with an Italian name.
All three were really great. But the hit of the meal was a South American
tamal- similar to tamales but really rich and delicious and served wrapped in
banana leaves. There was a fried corn cake served with them -- sort
of like fried polenta. AMAZING food and for Manhattan incredibly
reasonable, too.
Okay, so clearly I'm going to have to go on a New Year's diet!
This has been a quiet couple of months on the writing front as I took some
time to recharge my batteries. Was nice to spend time on other things for
a while. I've been at it pretty much non-stop for the last ten years with
fifteen books and three novellas to show for it. Not bad for a girl
chasing a dream, eh?
But now it's time to get back to work. Coming this year -- Set-up in
SoHo, a follow-up to A Match Made on Madison. Watch here for more
news about Andi Sevalas and her Manhattan adventures. When your Aunt is a
meddling matchmaker--life tends to get a bit crazy.
In the meantime, there's always my backlist. A Match Made on Madison is
still on the shelves (in fiction) and both Chain Reaction and Hell on Heels are
available at major bookstores online.

Had every intention of reading like a fiend while I was taking my hiatus, but
life, as usual, got in the way. So not much to report. Read a book
called the Aluminum Christmas Tree in honor of the season. And thoroughly
enjoyed it. I also bought Caridad Ferrer's newest; It's Not About
the Accent. She won the Rita for Adios to my Old Life -- a fabulous book I
highly recommend. Am looking forward to the new one. And been
reading Alton Brown's I'm Just Here For the Food. The book is an extension
of his television show Good Eats -- which we all enjoy watching. (Yes, I'm
a Food Network addict!)

As always, write and let me know what you think of my
